Greta Richard
Horn
Greta Richard is a distinguished horn player with a career spanning over two decades of professional performance at the highest level. A native of White Bear Lake MN, she earned dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Horn Performance from Ithaca College, while studying with John Covert, Patrick Hughes and Bill Bernatis. She went on to receive her Master of Music in Horn Performance from Southern Methodist University, where she studied with Gregory Hustis. Other notable teachers include John Cerminaro, and Herb Winslow.
From June of 2000 until her retirement in 2023, she was a member of the United States Marine Band, “The President’s Own”, in Washington, D.C. In addition to playing for Presidential Inaugurations, White House Events and funerals at Arlington National Cemetary, she held the 2nd Horn position with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in Virginia, and freelanced in the greater Washington D.C. area.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors and musicians, including Zubin Mehta, John Williams, Leonard Slatkin, Sammy Nestico, and Gianandrea Noseda. Since her move to Colorado, she has performed with the Colorado Ballet, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Colorado Springs Chamber Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, New Mexico Philharmonic, the Denver Brass and Aries Brass Quintet.
As an accomplished soloist and chamber musician, she has performed featured works such as the David Lyon Concerto for Horn and Schumann’s Konzertstück for 4 Horns. Her commitment to the horn community is further evidenced by her frequent recitals and lectures at international workshops, including the International Horn Society (IHS) conferences in 2016 and 2022. Her recording credits include over 10 recording projects with the United States Marine Band, most recently the W.A. Mozart Serenade No. 10 for Winds, "Gran Partita".
When not playing her horn, Greta enjoys family time with her two adult children and husband who share a competitive streak at the card table and a passion for escape rooms.
