The Aries Brass Quintet (ABQ or Aries) is the premier recital ensemble of The Denver Brass. It features Denver Brass’ core musicians performing at the highest artistic level. With a focus on refined, adventurous repertoire spanning classical masterworks, new compositions, and bold genre fusions, Aries showcases brass chamber music in its most polished and powerful form. Aries Brass Quintet was founded in 1977 by Jim Harvey. Trumpeter Joe Docksey joined the ensemble in 1979. Shortly after the appointment of Kathy Brantigan as tubist in the early ‘90s, Aries Brass Quintet came under the administrative fold of the Denver Brass. Aries Brass Quintet eventually evolved to feature the principal players of The Denver Brass. In its final iteration, Aries Brass Quintet comprised of Joe Docksey, Alan Hood, Susan McCullough, Joseph Martin, and Kathy Brantigan. Aries Brass Quintet went on a hiatus in the early 2000s and was inactive by 2011.

With the launch of the Denver Brass’ 45th season, the Aries Brass Quintet arises again. The ensemble is committed to extending the mission of the Denver Brass, with a focus on reaching diverse and under-served audiences.
