As community favorite arts groups go, the Denver Brass is certainly at the top of the short list of high quality, entertaining, highly skilled, fun-loving ensembles in Colorado. Internationally renowned and admired world-wide, Denver Brass is entering their 37th year and has produced over 30 CDs, several full length concert videos and now 2 new music videos of original pieces.

Mark your calendar for the November concert series concert, "Brass and Organ: Surround Sound" at Bethany Lutheran Church on November 18 and 19. We have been performing at Bethany for well over 25 years because of what the Bethany acoustics do for Brass. "Taking advantage of the warmth and brass friendly qualities of this very special place is something we never want to give up," says Kathy Brantigan, Denver Brass president, tubist, and concert host. "Even though many of our concerts are now at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts, we keep Bethany on our schedule because of what we can do artistically in this kind of acoustic space. Bethany has a wonderful sound, a wonderful organ and wonderful patrons and staff."

November's concert will feature brass antiphonally, brass with organ and brass electronically. As for the surround sound part, we will perform at different locations throughout the sanctuary on pieces such as Monteverdi's, Orfeo, Bach's, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and fan favorite, Pachelbel's famous, Canon in D. With guest soloist, Joseph Galema, former organist for the United States Air Force Academy Chapel, we will also be performing, Pikes Peak Overture and Saint-Saens' Adagio and Finale from Symphony No. 3, often called the "Organ Symphony."

This is a year of adventure and invention for Denver Brass as well. We have produced 2 new music videos and embarked on an innovative venture utilizing electronic manipulation of brass sounds using new microphones and electronic enhancements. On this concert, you will hear those effects in Andy Wolfe's Out of a Dream. Andy is a major composer and arranger for the Denver Brass as well as our bass trombonist.

As with all Denver Brass concerts, there will be something for everyone - young, not so young, and people of all musical tastes. The brilliant thing about our programming is the versatility of genres, styles and sounds. For people who come with classical music tastes, they leave learning about many other varieties and styles of music, and for those with more modern palates, they get to experience the beauty of traditional classic works. The audience is just as diverse as the music itself!

Former New York Philharmonic tubist, Warren Deck, will waive the baton for this sure-fire concert so be sure to get tickets early! Tickets can be purchased at www.newmantix.com/denverbrass or by calling 303-832-HORN (4676).
