Meet Our Guest Artist: Alan Hood, Jazz Trumpet
The Denver Brass is proud to welcome renowned trumpeter Alan Hood as our guest artist for Bourbon Street Brass, NEXT WEEKEND on February 10, 7:30pm & February 11, 2:00pm at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
Al is one of today's most prominent trumpet performers and educators. He has been performing for more than 35 years, has served as Professor of Trumpet at the Lamont School of Music since 1999, and has performed with the Denver Brass for more than 18 years. He is one of the rare trumpeters who feels equally at home in both classical and jazz performance. Alan has toured the world with the Phil Collins Big Band and is among the featured soloists on the band's live CD recording, A Hot Night in Paris. He has also performed with Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Manhattan Transfer, Arturo Sandoval and Wynton Marsalis, to name just a few. He continues to divide his time between performing and teaching full time, and performs throughout Colorado and beyond with the Denver Brass, the Denver Brass5 Quintet, the Ken Walker Jazz Sextet, the Peter Sommer Septet and the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra.
Alan appears on more than 50 jazz, commercial, and classical recordings. In 2008, he released his first solo CD, Just a Little Taste, followed with a big band CD with Dave Hanson and the H2 Big Band, titled You're It! The CD peaked at #10 on the national Jazz Week charts, and was followed by their 2015 album, It Could Happen, which remained in the top 20 for the entire summer of 2015. Alan can also be heard on many Denver Brass recordings, where his talents are evident in all styles of music.
You won't want to miss him as he wails away on Jazz solos including Saints Go Marching, It Ain't Necessarily So, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Sing, Sing, Sing!
