In 2015, David Artley added the position of Principal Trumpet of the Denver Brass to his illustrious musical career and service to our nation. As a member and soloist of the United States Army Field Band (the premier touring band of the Army) and later the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” David performed live for 7 sitting and former U.S. Presidents. You may have also unknowingly seen and heard David at the White House or one of many major ceremonies in the nation’s capital as a member of the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band or Herald Trumpets. While serving in “Pershing’s Own”, he served as senior music coordinator for the State Funerals for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford. After his distinguished career in the United States Army, David brought his talents to the Denver Brass where he now sits in front of 7 different pitched trumpets that give the Denver Brass its unique one-of-a-kind sound.

Since coming to Colorado, David has also performed with the Fort Collins Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Greeley Philharmonic, Colorado Brass, and the Denver Municipal Band. He served as Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at Colorado State University Pueblo from 2019 to 2023 and Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Denver University’s Lamont School of Music from 2022 to 2025. He maintains an active private teaching studio out of his home.

When not practicing, David’s office is in the outdoors or under water. Eight marathons and a half-ironman triathlon, hiking, biking, scuba diving, and yes, farming on a farm in Iowa that has been in the family since 1877, keep him more than occupied. David also displays his cerebral side with writing, reading, photography and history. The glue that holds these many accomplishments and hobbies together is his family - his wife Andrea, daughters Sophia and Elisabeth, and assorted cats and dogs.
